The Sudan HIV/AIDS Working Group (SHAWG) is a voluntary network of healthcare professionals focusing on improving the quality of HIV care as well as brokering effective transfer of HIV knowledge.

The specific objectives of  SHAWG are as follows:

 

 

       1. To improve the quality of care provided to HIV/AIDS

           patients in Sudan through the following:

 

 -  To provide technical assistance to the Sudan National AIDS Programme (SNAP) with regards to scaling up diagnostic and treatment activities.

 -      Promote good standards of care by developing national clinical guidelines for HIV/AIDS in consultation with SNAP and other relevant bodies.

 -       Provide scientific support to operational research activities in the field of HIV/AIDS.

 -   Contribute to fighting HIV-associated stigma in Sudan by organising information, education and communication campaigns.

 

2. To facilitate transfer of knowledge on HIV/AIDS to Sudanese healthcare workers through the following:

         -  To facilitate HIV training workshops aimed at physicians, nurses,

             and laboratory technicians.

         -  Facilitate long-term clinical mentorship schemes for frontline

            staff providing HIV care in Sudan.

         -  Sponsor healthcare professionals to participate in international

             HIV/AIDS conferences.

         -  Develop and maintain professional and educational HIV links

             between institutions in Sudan and the United Kingdom as well as

             other countries.  

While SHAWG relies on Sudanese contribution in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Sudan, it's membership is open to non-Sudanese professionals who would like to join SHAWG in its endavours to combat HIV/AIDS.
