About Us

OUR STORY

Our Journey

SHAWG is a voluntary network of healthcare professionals committed to improving the quality of HIV/AIDS care in Sudan and empowering Sudanese health workers through education, collaboration, and support.

Founded in 2008, SHAWG operates as an unincorporated association with a presence in both the UK and Sudan. Our work bridges continents and communities, bringing together global expertise and local insight to address the evolving challenges of HIV/AIDS care.

Dr Fath Alloba,
Trustee

Sudan faces unique challenges in HIV/AIDS care:

  • 48,000 people are estimated to be living with HIV in Sudan.

  • Armed conflict in 2023 disrupted care for thousands; over 4,000 people were re-enrolled in treatment thanks to community networks.

  • Stigma remains a major barrier—especially for women, youth, and displaced populations

We exist to bridge global expertise with local realities—ensuring that Sudanese communities affected by HIV receive informed, dignified, and culturally sensitive care.

Knowledge
We deliver workshops, webinars, and educational materials tailored to Sudanese healthcare settings.

We build networks of solidarity to uplift individuals and communities.
Care
Compassion is the foundation of every action we take.

Our network spans Sudan, the UK, and beyond connecting professionals, researchers, and volunteers.
Support
We partner with clinics, NGOs, and advocacy groups to reduce stigma and improve access to care.
